NY INSPIRES A STATEWIDE INSTRUCTIONAL INITIATIVE
NY Inspires is a statewide instructional initiative focused on ensuring that all students are prepared for college, careers, and civic life. As regulations are refined and districts and BOCES evolve instructional practices, the initiative emphasizes the development and demonstration of competencies grounded in prioritized learning standards and aligned to New York State's Portrait of a Graduate attributes. Students will engage in meaningful learning experiences, demonstrate learning in multiple ways, and progress toward graduation readiness through flexible pathways. These shifts intentionally center the student experience, including how learning, competencies, and readiness are represented and communicated to students and families. This includes the implementation of new student-centered tools, still being defined, that are grounded in consistent data standards to support equity, rigor, and student mobility. The information districts maintain and verify for instructional, reporting, and graduation purposes will continue to evolve, requiring thoughtful adaptation of information systems, data management practices, and state and regional reporting structures.
NY INSPIRES STUDENT LEARNING DATA
The diagram below illustrates how changes in instruction, assessment, grading, and graduation requirements create new expectations for student information, learning records, and transcripts. As regulations are amended and guidance is finalized, NYSED and the RICs will continue to provide clarity on specific requirements and implementation timelines. In the interim, RICs and vendors can begin identifying ways to support districts by exploring approaches to tracking competencies grounded in learning standards and aligned to the Portrait of a Graduate, capturing and displaying evidence of learning such as capstone projects, industry credentials, and work-based learning experiences, and improving student- and family-facing views of progress toward graduation readiness. Early innovation in these areas should be approached with an understanding that requirements will continue to evolve and that solutions should be adaptable, standards-aware, and scalable as statewide expectations are refined and finalized.

HOW INSTRUCTIONAL CHANGE SHAPES STUDENT INFORMATION AND TRANSCRIPTS
This diagram is intended to help regional and district data and technology leaders, along with vendors, understand how NYSED’s NY Inspires instructional changes are expected to impact technology systems, software, and data management processes. It is intended to help readers begin planning and adapting as NYSED advances its multi-year rollout of regulations, guidance, and resources. The diagram reflects direction known at this point in time, but it is not exhaustive or final. In some cases, terminology and representations are simplified, and due to space constraints, certain aspects of the work are shown at a high level rather than with full accuracy or detail.
